Touching you
in dreams

then a blue sky
tells me

you
did not
say my name

I see your face now

just for an instant
staring

out of my mirror

2nd Temperament a

So many of us
asking

to know what love is

few of us
giving answers

1st Temperament v

Unknowing fingers
brush the shelves
where I have kept
memory ashes

my sacrificial relics
settle lightly
in sunshine

they scatter
in slow motion
quietly troubling dust

then nestling
in much worn fibers
they come to rest
on this newer plane

the hand that moved them
now
in answering to me
will be held
gently

1st Temperament u

You had no way

of knowing

I was there

but

I was watching 

when you made

all those promises

to your mirror

I liked the way

you composed

your words

and yourself

the mirror

seemed to be 

more gray

than silver then

but something was 

reflected

because

I have seen

you making

those promises

good

Your face
wore an expression
that made me feel
you were smiling
inwardly
all of the time

I watched you
as the sky
lost its brightness
then your face
and its expression
were lost
to the night

You danced
into the field
of my vision
quickly turning
to a friend
with your excited
conversation
and the most
amused look
I had ever seen
on any face

at times I wonder
how your friend
could have said
what ever changed you
so suddenly
from the reflection
of sunshine
and flowers
to a dull imitation
of gray skies

With your elegant motions
you brought the gift of life
back to this bored street

each long step you took
seemed to be filled
with all the pride
you could find
in being such a
finely wrapped
package
of humanity

Behind
the complex highways
where they converge
like a giant
knot illustration
there is always
some thing to see

this time
it was
a pastel green
pickup truck
grown over
with vines

Could some one
long ago
have

sat in this spot
and

thought of some one
long ago

1st Temperament o

At times
not bound
to this earth

in daytime dreaming

I am the kite
on my own string

Look at me now
for I have

on this day
with no wind

wished a kite
into the air

Today
inconsistent winds

relax our strings and

throw the kites
back to the ground

1st Temperament l

Kites ride the wind
like birds

as I watch my good friend

hold
an invisible string

1st Temperament k

Walking gracefully

she names
constellations

pointing
to them
with her toes

1st Temperament j

So many stars
in this sky

is it the same one

used
to cover my city

1st Temperament i

Black birds
in a muddy river

knowing you love flight

I never thought
you could swim

1st Temperament h

Distant anger sounds

making a scar
in the sky

as birds fly
straight up

1st Temperament g

In clouded sunshine

the new leaves
of dancing trees

are thoughts
unfinished

1st Temperament f

Snows fading away

much like
flowers and youth or

quiet reflections

1st Temperament e

A warm winter day

the wind forces trees
to bow

obsequiously

1st Temperament d

Their dead blades freezing

the roots of grass
must find warmth

in dreams of summer

Spending time
talking to fish

or searching for
lost plants

I slow down
to the speed of growth

Consider
our earths roundness

as the sun rises

and morning breezes
whisper

To form
and reform

so many reasons
to touch

a dream
still dreaming

25th Anniversary

The year 2013 marks the 25th anniversary of the publication of my book of poetry "Auspicious Circumstance" and I plan to celebrate by sharing one poem at a time from the book in order here. I will also include something to look at. Since I am not a huge fan of illustrated poetry (sorry dear friend) the "illustrations" will not attempt to further the words but just accompany them along the way. It will also give you more than one chance to like the post each time. If two chances are not enough to find something you like while going through the book please comment and I will attempt to up the offering. Within reason of course.

There will also be a 25th Anniversary Edition sometime soon.  Nothing too fancy but just one more way for me to celebrate.  My celebrations will be ways for me to get back into the habit of writing daily. I have actually put newer written works on this blog in the past and once I have gone through the book I hope to add many more.
